Globalization and Localization Association welcomed Marie Flacassier as Chair of the Board for 2021.
With over 20 years experience in the localization industry, gained by serving in management and executive roles within various Localization and OPI companies in Europe and the US, Marie Flacassier co-founded BeatBabel in 2009.
Marie believes it is important to be involved in the international community. She has been a speaker and attended many language conferences to stay informed about our industry. She served for four years on the Board of Directors of the French American Chamber of Commerce in San Diego. She took part in GALA’s Program Committee in Europe for two years, helping organize the Istanbul and Sevilla conference. Her international, management and organizational experience has helped her build the required skills to serve GALA further by working on the board. In her spare time, rie was first elected on the GALA Board of Directors in 2019. She became, Treasurer then, Vice Chair in 2020, just as COVID became a pandemic, forcing many associations to cancel events.
When asked about this new position, Marie explained: “Though the past two years have seen their share of challenges, it is time to roll up our sleeves and continue fighting for our industry and the things I am passionate about - languages, culture and our community! I am very happy to follow previous board’s work on growing our membership to include all stakeholders in the globalization industry. Recent events taught me that leadership is crucial, and the worst thing is for good people to do nothing and sit on the sidelines. I now feel it is my time to give back to our community and members by advancing best practices and sharing my knowledge and expertise.”
